Bayern Munich’s outgoing manager Pep Guardiola has been appointed to replace current Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini on a three year deal as from next season.
The 45-year-old former Barcelona player and manager will replace Pellegrini, who is expected to leave the club on the 30th of June, 2016. Guardiola’s appointment was confirmed via a statement from the club’s website as it said: “Chilean Pellegrini, 62, was “fully supportive” of the announcement being made.” The club also added that negotiations with Guardiola had been “a re-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012.”
Former Malaga, Villareal and Real Madrid manager Pellegrini won the Premier League with Manchester City during his first season in England, in addition to the Capital One Cup.
Pellegrini succeeded Italian manager, Roberto Mancini in 2013, and took the club to a Premier League and League Cup double the following season. He has won 64 of his 99 Premier League games as a manager, a record only eclipsed by Jose Mourinho, who won 73 of his opening 99 league matches as Chelsea boss. City could yet win four trophies under Pellegrini this season. The club is already through to the knock-out stage of the Champions
